Leading Edge HIV Care

Arrival of first shipment of ARVs to Kericho District Hospital:
"For me it was a very memorable moment in my life. I feel very proud personally to be a part of the team that is starting this treatment at our hospital. I am grateful to the President's Emergency Plan and WRP."
Dr. Rasvinder Chadha, Kericho District Hospital Pharmacist.
MHRP staff is engaged in prevention, care and treatment initiatives as part of its community-based HIV vaccine trials. As part of the U.S. government's President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, MHRP continues to provide these services in all communities where it conducts research.
Services include counseling and testing, palliative care (TB and HIV) and treatment (antiretroviral therapy) and support for orphans.
MHRP also has trained hundreds of local health care personnel to provide essential prevention, care and treatment services. One example is the training of 30 HIV counselors in Kericho, Kenya who work tirelessly to provide community education, including ways to limit mother-child HIV transmission. The program's screening, counseling and education initiatives in this community have effectively decreased risk of transmission. Community education efforts are ongoing at all other research sites, as well.
