
Biography
Barb serves as the Deputy Director of International HIV Prevention and Treatment (IHPT). IHPT provides strategic program direction and technical oversight to PEPFAR programs in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Nigeria to ensure the highest quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services are implemented at the field level. In her role, she oversees Program Management and Strategic Information teams to maximize program performance. In collaboration with the Director, Barb helped expand the IHPT team with new technical and programmatic expertise. She coordinates PEPFAR workplan development, annual report submissions, staff recruiting and onboarding among other management responsibilities.
Barb is a seasoned international development practitioner and has served in leadership positions with FHI 360, AED, the US Peace Corps in Malawi and Jhpiego managing and supporting PEPFAR-funded programs. Barbara Monahan began her career in global health as a Community Health Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo working to eradicate Guinea Worm Disease. Barb earned an MPH in international health from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. While in graduate school, Barb also worked full time at CARE International, where she launched a new program for the organization aimed at building awareness and support for the special reproductive health needs of refugee populations.
