Joint West Africa Research Group Completes First Training in Nigeria

The Joint West Africa Research Group (JWARG) last week completed its first training, a module on Good Clinical Laboratory Practice.

The three-day training in Nigeria included practical sessions, exercises and presentations. It was facilitated by Walter Reed Project-Nigeria PEPFAR lab manager Aminu Suleiman and was attended by participants from Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia.

JWARG is a new initiative that will leverage existing research platforms and relationships to improve biopreparedness in the region. It is a collaboration between MHRP/WRAIR, Naval Medical Research Unit 3-Ghana Detachment, the Austere Environment Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcome and other military, government and academic institutions.

Partners will build upon existing programs in Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia and focus on lab strengthening, biosurveillance and countermeasure development.
