MHRP Discusses HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment Efforts with Tanzanian President

Tiffany Hamm, Ph.D., Chief, Department of International HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment, was part of a U.S. government delegation that met with the President of Tanzania H.E Jakaya Kikwete on Thursday August 6, 2009 in Dar es Salaam to discuss the U.S. governments efforts under PEPFAR in Tanzania.

Dr. Hamm said, “The visit emphasized the continued commitment of the U.S. Department of Defense in developing Tanzania's capacity to execute sustainable, public health services , as well as DoD’s role in this multi-agency USG effort.”

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is working with Tanzania on HIV, pandemic influenza and malaria surveillance and diagnostics.

Dr. Hamm's attendance follows President Kiwkete's visit to WRAIR in Washington in May, and MHRP Director COL Nelson Michael’s trip to Tanzania in June where ongoing collaborative public health and medical research activities were discussed.
