Tanzania President Dedicates Mobile Diagnostic Lab

May Help Combat TB and HIV in Tanzania

President of Tanzania H.E Jakaya Kikwete inaugurated the Mobile Diagnostic Laboratory today, a MHRP collaboration, which will support TB/HIV co-diagnosis at the Ilembo Health Center in Mbeya Rural District.

The lab is an outstanding tool and resource for providing effective treatment. In 24 hours, the lab can diagnose and stage several HIV and TB cases. This helps eliminate concerns over long time periods spent awaiting test results or treatment. It is able to reach and diagnose large segments of the population, even in rural areas, fostering widespread education and awareness and rapidly improving access to care and treatment.

A collaboration between the Mbeya Medical Research Program (MMRP), Walter Reed Program-Tanzania and the Mbeya Medical Office, the lab is funded through EuropeAid/European Commission.
