In a ribbon cutting ceremony held September 1, 2011, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Terrence McCulley officially declared the new Walter Reed Program – Nigeria (WRP-N) office open.
In his remarks, McCulley congratulated WRP-N on recent achievements including the five star accreditation of the 445 Nigerian Air Force Hospital laboratory in Lagos. The Medical Lab Science Council of Nigeria granted the accreditation, ranking the laboratory the best in the country.
“The new office symbolizes a new chapter in WRP-N history as the program shifts focus from emergency to sustainability under country ownership,” stated Robbie Nelson, WRP-N Program Director.
The Emergency Planning Implementation Committee Chairman, Brigadier General Tahir Umar also addressed the success of the Nigerian Ministry of Defence and Department of Defense partnership, noting the growth of the program from 4 to 20 sites since 2006.
Attendees included the Defense Attaché COL Dickey, the United States Agency for International Development Chief of Party, Dana Mansuri and the WRP-N team.
